Fire Rated Questions

•  Can I use these studs in any fire rated assembly? 
  • Fire rated assemblies need to be reviewed closely with any product.  Ratings are generic unless specifically identified as proprietary.  UltraSTEEL™ can be used in any of the generic rated assemblies that it meets the physically described properties.  Also, UltraSTEEL™ has its own proprietary UL® listed assembly in V450.  UL® also provides third party inspection on this product to verify the quality is the same as the tested assembly; no other drywall stud complies with this service.
• What kind of fire benefit is there with 20ga? 
  • As with traditional studs, 20 gauge has not been tested. The theory is that the performance is relational and the 20 gauge will perform the same as the 25 gauge.
• Does the customer get the same fire benefit if they inter-mix products?
  • No, fire rated assemblies must be comprised of one product or the assembly will not be rated.
